The estate is located amidst the many splendored mountains at altitudes upto 6000 feet, where Earth meets Heaven, and one can find peace in the lap of breathtaking beauty, and the mystery and magic of Darjeeling’s finest teas. Consistently ranked among the top 5 quality estates of Darjeeling, Goomtee derives its name from the Nepali word ‘Ghumti’, meaning ‘place of turning’. Indeed, a sip of Goomtee’s world famous tea can turn away all stress and thirst, offering an experience of ‘Zen’!
History
Goomtee tea garden was planted in 1899 by a British pioneer planter, Mr. Henry Montgomery Lennox. Today it is owned by the Kanoria family, founded in 1959 by a pioneer tea exporter, Mr. Santosh Kanoria. The tea garden was planted with pedigreed bushes and have been carefully nurtured and cultivated for over a century to continue the tradition of providing high quality unmatched Darjeeling teas to discerning tea lovers and royalty worldwide.

Tea Plantation
Goomtee tea plantation ranges from an elevation of 2800 feet to 6000 feet, with bushes planted on steep slopes which provide ideal natural drainage for the heavy monsoon rainfall the area receives. The soil and favorable weather, combined with alternating mist and sunshine help produce the slow growing conditions, which are necessary for natural quality development in the leaf. The natural beauty surrounding the plantation is breathtaking. It is but natural that the tea grown in such pristine surroundings is characterized by an incomparable charisma and quality. Goomtee teas are a limited edition item, with approximately 70,000 Kgs available annually through the seasons.
The plantation consists of over 1 million tea bushes spread over 500 acres. The estate’s highest section, known as ‘Muscatel Valley’ after the much sought after muscat grapes type high quality 2nd flush teas it grows, is a fully certified organic section. Goomtee believes in preserving and enriching nature with a sustainable environmental approach, and the entire tea estate will be organic certified by 2024. Goomtee is certified ISO 9001, HACCP and Rainforest Alliance. All our teas are fully traceable from bush to cup.

The secret of Goomtee’s superior teas lies in the quality of leaf nurtured by Nature with its bewitching mix of soil, location, sunshine, clouds, dewdrops, and the fine art perfected by our pluckers of plucking two leaves and a bud. A tea factory can only carefully process this leaf to bring out its aroma and flavor, but it is impossible to impart flavor where there is none. In Goomtee, each batch of leaf is processed with individual care and ethically made with passion and commitment to the pursuit of quality. The factory has been carefully preserved over the decades, and modernized in keeping with the times. Our team of tea makers bring their years of experience to ensure that Goomtee remains ‘Darjeeling’s Gold Standard’ when it comes to experiencing a traditional top tea.
Goomtee teas have no equal and are difficult to replicate in any other garden. The 2nd flush muscatel teas have a flavor that is described as reminiscent of muscadine grapes, or simply muscatel. With a bouquet that’s as splendid and pleasing as a garden abloom with summer roses, and sometimes the fragrance of ripe peaches. The first flush and autumn teas of Goomtee are like a fresh mountain breeze, rejuvenating and refreshing!

The local Gorkha population are a cheerful, hardworking and hospitable people. Our workers are the backbone of the Goomtee family and their commitment is reflected in every gram of tea that is produced. Flavoured by nature and the commitment of the Goomtee work force, the teas are built on traditions perpetuated with uncommon determination and excellence. Most of our co-worker families are in their third generation of service and possess great artesian skills.
