Our Tea Trail

The pioneering tea journey of BALAJI AGRO INTERNATIONAL traces its history back to 1959 when Mr. Santosh Kanoria took over the tea plantations of his family, the Kanoria group of industries, and transformed them into efficient quality conscious estates. A renowned planter and taster, he owned and managed tea estates in Assam, Terai, Darjeeling and Dooars. He was a pioneer in the field of Indian tea exports.

In 1969 Santosh reduced his involvement in plantations to concentrate on exports of quality teas. Balaji Agro International was born to fulfil this dream. Its sister concern, Kanoria International was formed in 1994 to focus on organic tea exports and future Darjeeling plantations.

The cornerstones of this firm since foundation have been: Trust, Service and Value for money. It is this sincerity of objective coupled with an in-depth knowledge of tea and its marketing, as well as our high personalised levels of service that has made BALAJI AGRO INTERNATIONAL a respected name in the international tea world today.

Our Managing Partner has over 35 years of experience in all aspects of the international tea trade, and brings all his experience and personal integrity into every transaction.

We serve as an effective one stop shop offering all grades and types of Darjeeling and Assam teas,be it single estate or customised blends, organic or conventional, black or green tea.

Emphasis on food safety and quality: Tea is a food item and we attach prime importance to its hygiene and presentation. Our warehouse is located in Kolkata and is HACCP and FSSC certified. The packing unit comprises of a state-of-the-art tea cleaning machine which incorporates fiber extractor, sieve sorter, pneumatic de-stoner, magnet, dust collector and visual inspection platform to present our clients with a superior and hygienic tea.

Periodic product analysis is conducted in international laboratories to ensure products comply to international pesticide norms. All pre-shipment samples are sent to buyers for their own analysis and approval prior to shipments.

Anshuman Kanoria completed his education in the USA and Switzerland and joined the family business in 1985. Besides handling our tea exports and procurement, he has served the Indian tea trade in various leadership positions:

Mrs. Vrinda KanoriaPresident

She was trained under our Late founder and oversees administration, gardens and exports. The family firm has been strengthened by the induction of 3rd generation family members. Parthivi Kanoria has returned with a degree from Kings College London and assumed charge of Business Development. Tavishi Kanoria has taken over the responsibility of digital marketing after graduating from Babson College, USA. Both our young entrepreneurs are also in charge of our retail fashion divisions.
